Pepangil

pepangil.jpg (27633 bytes) Clerodendron paniculatum, or Pepangil, is a shrub that has attractive red flowers on contrasting white stems. Growing 6-8 feet tall in the forest, this plant is now cultivated as a decorative plant in many urban areas. Used widely in Malay religious ceremonies, the plant is also valued for its medicinal properties, When its leaves are steeped in water the liquid may be consumed as a purgative to cleanse the intestines. The leaves are also to treat distended stomachs by external applications.
