Mengkudu Juice For Export
Kuala Lumpur : Malaysia will export Morinda citrifolia or mengkudu juice which it now import at a cost of RM150ml annually.
The juice extracted from home grown mengkudu will be bottled and exported to the ASEAN countries, Australia, Hong Kong and Taiwan before the end of this years.
The Malaysia product labeled as Morinzhi will be exported as health beverage and DXN Marketing Sdn Bhd will launch the product on Saturday in Johor Baru.
The companys market planning manager Nicholas Guan said they were finalising discussions for the beverage to enter the countries.
Sold though the multi-level market system the beverage is packed in 285ml glass bottles, each costing RM45.
So far 10,000 bottles have been produced at DXNs factory in Alor Star.
Morinzhi is specially formulated from Morinda citrifolia which is commonly found in the tropics.
Locally know as mengkudu the fruit has been used in the tropics as a herbal cure for ailments and diseases.
Guan said he was not making any claims but mengkudu was traditionally used for many years in the tropics for stomach pain,hypertension and other illnesses.
" The Morinzhi we make is free from preservative, sugar, artificial colouring flavoring.
" Malaysia Morinzhi is produced under stringent control quality processes," Guan said.
The Morinzhis recommended dosage is two tablespoons once a day before meal.
The Malaysia Agricultural Research and Development Institute is negotiating with a local company to produce mengkudu fruit extract in mango, guava, grape and pineapple flavours.
